Issue Date: | 16-May-2019 | Citation: | SHAALIN SUBRAMANIAM (2019-05-16). URA'S GREATER SOUTHERN WATERFRONT PLAN. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | URA has announced 6 different ideas under the Greater Southern Waterfront (GSW) plan. The six ideas are: 1. New opportunity to live work and play 2. Extend the City to GSW 3. Expand the network of public spaces 4. Capitalise on our blue assets 5. Create a continuous waterfront 6. Connecting green and open spaces The plan is still in its early stages and details of each idea has not been elaborated. The main objective of this dissertation is to analyse the URA’s GSW plan and to elaborate further on each idea. Some of the suggestions includes creating synergy between Sentosa, Pulau Brani and GSW to form a recreational hub. The continuous corridor along the entire 30 km-long southern shoreline of Singapore should not be limited to infrastructure on the land but also make use of the waterbodies. Urban water transit can be introduced to provide an alternate route for people to travel. This paper further examines the effectiveness and benefit of each plan using a paired comparison matrix. Using the paired comparison matrix, idea 4, capitalise on our blues assets, the idea to create a reservoir is the most effective and most beneficial plan. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/222916 |
