Title: | THE IMPACT OF DIFFERENT GLASS MEDIUM ON FACADE ON THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF A BUILDING | Authors: | YAP JIN JIN | Keywords: | Building | Issue Date: | 7-Oct-2009 | Citation: | YAP JIN JIN (2009-10-07T11:13:06Z). THE IMPACT OF DIFFERENT GLASS MEDIUM ON FACADE ON THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF A BUILDING. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | It has been shown that substantial energy savings in large buildings could be obtained through the use of energy-efficient refrigeration and lighting equipment, proper selection and control of air-conditioning systems, improved design of building envelope and good management of building services. This dissertation paper is a study on the different types of glass glazing in the aspect of solar heat gain transmission and thermal comfort. Energy simulations of different types of glass window, clear float single glazed glass, clear float double glazed glass, and low-e double glazed glass and tinted double glazed glass and different length of shading devices were investigated. The effectiveness of the glazing and shading devices was studied to analyze the thermal performance of the building façade towards energy consumption. A simulation study is made on a hypothetical 30-storey high office building investigating the quantitative effect the glazing and shading devices on the cooling load of the building and the variations of air temperature and mean radiant temperature in the spaces. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/222855 |
