Abstract: Resilience has become the “new sustainability” and is developing into a buzzword just as sustainability (Walker and Salt 2012, ix). As almost every country around the world is striving to increase their level of resilience, various rankings have been developed by governmental institutions as well as private corporations. These rankings are developed based on different interests. Almost none of the academic discourses have examined the resilience ranking, this dissertation aims to fill in this gap by evaluating the existing rankings of resilience level. It also intended to bridge the gap between local, national and global level by reflecting the successful local strategies against the rankings. The importance of the existence of effective mechanism which link the locals with external agencies will be demonstrated through local strategies as well. The capabilities of resilience rankings in capturing the community resilience at micro level will be validated through the method of empirical evidence.
