Abstract: As Singapore moves towards a Smart Nation, there is now a greater interest in smart homes. Nevertheless, despite their benefits, the adoption rate of smart homes in Singapore is low. The literature review introduces smart homes, the different technologies and explores their relevance in Singapore. The current initiatives by the government and the industry outlook in Singapore are also discussed. For the research, a survey questionnaire is conducted to understand users’ perceptions and preferences. Interviews are also conducted with an official and the general manager of Astralink, a service provider of smart home systems. This is followed by data analysis of the survey questionnaire and interviews respectively. Research implications such as the main findings and future action are then discussed. Lastly, there is mention of the limitations of the research, recommendations for future research and the conclusion.
