Abstract: As identified by Toor, the construction industry is facing a period of change. The roles of the professions involved in the industry in general and of quantity surveyors (QS) in particular, are also changing. Even though there have been many cases of QS changing over to be project managers (PM), there are indisputable differences between the job scopes of the two vocation. This dissertation aims to provide an insight on what quality QS can provide to fulfil the task of a project manager and if there are any areas of expertise where the QS can triumph the conventional project manager. Literature review conducted will help to identify the similar qualities between a quantity surveyor and a project manager. Results from the literature review will also shed some light on the unique qualities that QS can bring to the table.
