Abstract: This thesis seeks to explore a new form of columbarium for its existence within housing estate with due regards to the taboo of death in Chinese beliefs. The premise set forth is tested out in this thesis design as a town memorial. Dignity is employed as an architectural device to alleviate the issue on the taboo of death. Under a dignified setting, the town dwellers will be recognized in a form of a memorial, thus alleviating the Chinese perception of deathscape within housing estate being undesirable.
