Abstract: Walking through Orchard Road, one will experience a magnificent boulevard of shopping centres that is lined with tropical trees and lush greenery. However, above and beyond the grandiosity of the retail programs, are the less prominent but equally important programs of hotel, office and residential – Orchard Road is a street of Mixed-use Developments (MXD). Being a prime shopping place for both tourists and locals, Orchard Road is densely packed with different programs horizontally and vertically. When different programs and people meet, conflicts will be generated at various spatial interfaces. This paper focuses on the challenges faced at spatial interfaces of Mixed-used developments - both on the street scale and on the building.
