Abstract: ‘Lively and liveable’ is what the government envisions for Singapore’s future. To realize this, every agency has to play its part. For Building and Construction Authority, their role is to achieve the target of making eighty percent of existing buildings Green Mark Certified. A building is assessed according to the areas that contribute to sustainability and they are discussed in this paper. Public housing accounts for a huge portion of the targeted eighty percent and hence a lot has to be accomplished by Housing and Development Board who manage them. An analysis of EnergySave programme is performed to comprehend what it was about. The programme helps housing estates reduced energy usage and two precincts had already successfully tried out this programme. Moreover, EnergySave roadshow will be rotating through different neighborhoods quarterly to promote the use of energy efficient appliances at home. It is seen that HDB is also concerned with helping household utilizing energy appropriately. Hence, a survey is carried out to understand residents’ awareness regarding sustainability and the extent to which efficient appliances had invaded their homes.
