Abstract: This thesis explores the possibilities of providing a return to a life of learning for those who have stopped for various reasons. Studies have shown that up to 60% of the population do not further their education after attaining GCE ‘O’ Level accreditation. Living in the twenty‐first century requires us to constantly update our knowledge and develop new skills to keep up with a rapidly changing environment. The thesis acknowledges the importance of providing people with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills throughout one’s life, so that they are able to function well in society and keep up with the constantly changing demands of working life. The term “lifelong learning” involves a cradle‐to‐grave perspective, which recognizes that learning occurs at all stages of life, in different forms and in a variety of arenas. Various educational methods are examined and evaluated. New modes of knowledge transfer are also explored and implemented into the design. The design of the campus for life‐long learning is developed in tandem with the contemporary technological advances available. By locating the campus in a central residential region, the project demonstrates its intent of being a campus accessible to those staying in all parts of Singapore. It’s main circulatory route, derived from an existing informal pathway, serves to facilitate the daily transitions of the residents whilst providing glimpses of educational activities as they enter. The program also ensures the feasibility of the model with the implementation of a public library, as well as other community facilities for non‐students.
