ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The adoption of Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) technology is popular in some of the developed countries such as United States, United Kingdom, etc. However, the awareness of using LIDAR technology is low in Singapore as lack of government support and professionals in executing LIDAR technology in Singapore. Singapore is moving forward and aims to become a smart nation in developing 3D modelling for Building and City Map, by using LIDAR technology could brings benefits to different organisations in terms of increased of work productivity and convenience provided by LIDAR technology. Some of the problems that stakeholders from the construction industry faced are remodelling from existing plan is very time consuming as engineers or drafters have to flip through and digest hundreds pages of drawings and the drawings are inconsistent. Furthermore, there is lack of fast and concise methods to develop modelling for Building and City Map. Hence, this dissertation aims to determine if LIDAR technology could bring benefits to the construction industry and accessing the capability of the LIDAR technology. This study used of SWOT analysis to evaluate the potential threats, advantages , disadvantages and opportunities in using LIDAR technology through qualitative data collected through interviews with LIDAR experts and case studies. A conceptual framework was proposed to serve as guide and assistance to the various stakeholders who have yet to adopt LIDAR technology and preparing them towards LIDAR adoption. 5W1H(Who, what, where, when, why, how) approach has been used in developing the proposed conceptual framework to improve the adoption processes of LIDAR technology in Singapore. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/221070 |
