Title: | A REVIEW OF SINGAPORE S GREEN TRANSPORTATION MEASURES | Authors: | WONG HUA LIN, CORINE | Keywords: | Environment | Issue Date: | 4-Jan-2010 | Citation: | WONG HUA LIN, CORINE (2010-01-04T12:55:36Z). A REVIEW OF SINGAPORE S GREEN TRANSPORTATION MEASURES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The transportation sector is one of the largest consumers of fuel in Singapore, taking up about 15.8% of Singapore’s fuel consumption in 2005. This results in the transportation sector being a significant emitter of greenhouse gases (GHG). A multi-agency committee, the Energy Efficiency Programme Office (E2PO), led by the National Environment Agency1 (NEA), was established in 2007 to look into improving energy efficiencies in Singapore and the transportation section is one of the areas being looked into. Singapore has put in place a variety of policies and schemes to increase the energy efficiency in the transportation sector and a review of the efforts are presented in this paper. To investigate Singaporeans’ responses towards these measures, a survey was conducted. In this paper, the principles that govern transportation in an ecological city and examples of transportation policies in two ecocities, Curitiba and Copenhagen are also presented to serve as a comparison for Singapore’s efforts in this aspect. The responses gathered from the survey, together with the principles that govern transportation in ecocities, are put together to develop proposals that Singapore can look into to better improve the energy efficiencies in the transportation sector. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/220984 |
