Issue Date: | 20-May-2011 | Citation: | TRAN THI BICH VAN (2011-05-20). GREEN CONSTRUCTION METHODS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Construction industry helps to provide infrastructures for human activities. However, it also causes pollution to environment such as soil and water contamination, waste generation, noise, vibration and dust. Contractors play an important role in managing construction sites and reducing the environmental pollution of construction activities. The aim of this study is to investigate green construction methods adopted by contractors on construction sites in order to achieve sustainability. The research method was based on case studies. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire. Interviews were conducted with the main contractors’ personnel who were involved in the construction phase. Green construction methods adopted for each project were identified and grouped in 4 categories: energy consumption and conservation, waste minimization, environmental pollution control, and disturbance minimization. In addition, success factors to achieve sustainable construction were revealed, including detailed planning, presence of company’s sustainability policy, strong commitment of management, use of innovative technology, and employees’ recognition of benefits of green practices. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to clients, consultants and contractors. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/220726 |
