Abstract: With the shrinking local construction market pie, Singapore construction companies have to venture overseas to look for business opportunities in order to survive on the long run. Therefore there is an imperative need to increase the efficiency of the local industry so that the local firms can stand a competitive edge against other players in the rapidly globalising world. Also, there is an increasing demand to manage information effectively in this knowledge based era. The main features of Web-based Project Management System (WPMS) is structured to help construction firms to achieve vast improvements in productivity through better collaboration amongst business partners along the construction value chain and more systematic data exchange through a central storage. Although there are barriers to the implementation of WPMS, the benefits reaped from its adoption are too tremendous to be dispensed with. This research has discovered that there can be more prevalent adoption of WPMS in the local construction industry. To encourage the embracing of the technology in local context, it is essential to assert that WPMS is a strategic tool for local construction firms to compete for projects overseas. It was established that in spite of the costs and intangible expense faced by successful international companies which uses WPMS, the advantages are far more attractive. With more promotion by the government, it is envisioned that WPMS will be widely adopted by the local construction firms. Thus, the industry subsequently will benefit.
