Abstract: This dissertation seeks to examine the effectiveness of the current traffic management measures that have been implemented in Singapore. In addition to that, it also attempts to explore the causes of traffic congestion as well as its consequences in relation to the sociological aspects. The ultimate aim of this study is to provide a feasible list of solutions that could possibly improve the traffic conditions and eliminate the occurrence of traffic congestion. A critique of the relevant traffic management measures that include the Vehicle quota system, the Electronic road pricing schemes, the off-peak car scheme as well as the vehicle entry permit fees & toll charges are included in order to fully comprehend the shortcomings of these implemented measures. In the search for a feasible solution, existing examples of sustainable transport concepts from other countries are scrutinized and further appreciated. These concepts are then recommended to provide a viable option for alleviating traffic congestion in Singapore. The proposed solutions are not restricted to merely conventional traffic management strategies. Instead, this paper seeks to explore traffic solutions in the realms of sociological paradigms.
