Abstract: The increasing amount of scrap tires poses a serious environmental problem for the world. Three waste tire management practices with energy recovery were examined in this study: waste tire use in cement plant, incineration and pyrolysis. The comparison of these three options in terms of their effectiveness was based on life cycle assessment involving ten impact categories and the economic assessment. It was concluded that waste tire use in cement plant presented the greatest net environmental impact avoidance compared to baseline conditions, followed by pyrolysis and incineration. Meanwhile, pyrolysis may be most attractive economically because of large benefit/cost ratio.
