A STUDY ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SUPER DIELECTRIC FLUID IN THE EDM PROCESS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a highly popular choice for the machining of conductive materials, irrespective of their hardness. To improve the efficiency of the EDM process, this study proposes an innovative, super dielectric-based EDM fluid that provides high capacitive plasma during the machining process and ensures better machining efficiency. The effect of super dielectric fluid on EDM plasma has been analysed, and it is explained by plasma physics theory. The electrical energy stored in the capacitive fluid is released during the discharge process, and it increases discharge efficiency and explosive force, ultimately enhancing machining efficiency. In this research, the effect of the high capacitive-based discharge machining process was investigated for four difficult-to-cut materials. Several experiments with four different materials, namely, stainless steel, Inconel 718, titanium, and tungsten carbide were conducted to validate our predictions and theories. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/215776 |
