Abstract: This study examines the housing needs and preferences of the elderly population in Singapore. It adopted a qualitative approach to the investigation process and attempts to establish the factors that determine the housing choices of the local senior community. Depth interviews were conducted to ascertain the housing wants and demands of the aged. The findings are analyzed against the results presented in past researches. Although the results exhibited a close match, other new observations were made. It is concluded that the Studio Apartments Scheme by the Housing and Development Board had the attributes to fulfill the housing needs of the elderly. Certain modifications were suggested to ensure greater compatibility between provision and wants.
