Title: | VEHICULAR-PEDESTRIAN CONFLICT IN THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE | Authors: | TAN PEK THIAN IMELDA | Issue Date: | 2002 | Citation: | TAN PEK THIAN IMELDA (2002). VEHICULAR-PEDESTRIAN CONFLICT IN THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the traffic calming system in the National University of Singapore. The campus is a place whereby thousands of pedestrians walk daily. There are also numerous vehicles moving through the campus. Thus, there is the conflict of movement between the pedestrians and vehicles within the campus. The campus is assisted by traffic calming to regulate these movements. Traffic calming should be reviewed every now and then so as to ensure pedestrians' safety. The objective of this work was to examine the campus and thus, result in a more walkable campus. The author, in particular examined various busy spots in NUS. The examination was done via observations and surveys. The movements of the vehicles and pedestrians were observed at these busy spots. The author also spoke to pedestrians randomly to get a clearer picture of the safety level in campus. Questionnaires were sent out to seek opinions and recommendations from pedestrians. Various spots were proven to be rather unsafe. The author made an attempt to recommend changes, in the hope of improving the environment and making life safer for the many pedestrians and drivers. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/193360 |
