With a higher proportion of the population living in private properties, there will be a greater demand for higher standard in property management. Hence there exists a need to retain and reward capable property managers. A critical determinant of whether a property manager stays on in his or her profession is his level of job satisfaction, which depends on fulfillment of work values such as prestige and authority. Performance appraisal provides feedback and identifies the training needs of an appraisee. This study investigates the relationship between the quality of performance appraisal system and the job satisfaction of residential property managers. The survey results show that property managers view performance appraisal as an important determinant of their job satisfaction.
