POLYCYCLIC PI-CONJUGATED SYSTEMS WITH DIFFERENT TOPOLOGIES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Polycyclic π-conjugated systems have gained tremendous interest recently. However, synthetic approaches towards polycyclic π-conjugated systems are still limited. The objective of this thesis is to challenge the synthesis of various polycyclic π-conjugated systems with different topologies and explore their fundamental physical properties. In chapter 1, we reviewed recent progress on the synthesis of polycyclic π-conjugated systems with various topologies. In chapter 2 and 3, we synthesized a series of linear polycyclic π-conjugated systems with azapentalene moieties and characterized their fundamental physical properties. In chapter 4, we observed an uprecedented naphthalene to azulene rearrangement during synthesis of curved nanographene and revealed the mechanism behind it by computational studies. In chapter 5 and 6, we report our progress on the synthesis of atomic precise fragements of (n,0) carbonnanotubes. We hope this thesis can shed light on the study of atomic precise synthesis of carbon nanomaterials. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/187580 |
