DEVELOPING HIGH POWER LI-ION AND NA-ION BATTERIES: SYNTHESIS AND ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ANODE MATERIALS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | In this thesis study, suitable choice of batteries considering both lithium and sodium storage systems for high-power applications are investigated. While the synthesis of anode material is focused, optimization of full-cell at the industrial level is also a main objective of this thesis work. Lithium titanate (LTO) and hard carbon (HC) are chosen to be investigated for Li-ion and Na-ion battery system, respectively. A cost-effective synthesis method that can be easily applied in large-scale production for each of the material is introduced. The LTO material presented can deliver a discharge capacity of 169 mAh/g at C/5 rate with retention of 97 mAh/g at 4C rate. The HC material presented can deliver a discharge capacity of 300 mAh/g at C/10 rate with retention of 234 mAh/g at 3C rate. Their high-power potential is investigated in commercial format full-cell. Performance optimization is achieved with various selections of cathode material and electrolyte. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/187320 |
