TECHNOLOGY ANALYSIS AND MARKET-BASED MECHANISMS FOR CO2 REDUCTION IN THE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING SECTOR. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This Master thesis studies the influence of technology spillovers on the R&D of climate-mitigation technologies for international shipping under an Emission Trading Scheme (ETS). This thesis theoretically describes a holistic framework of the shipping R&D process. The effects of technology spillovers on the R&D of low-carbon innovations are presented. A case study about the battery technology is more specifically detailed. An ETS scenario analysis is conducted about a joint ETS between the aviation and shipping sectors. A numerical model is then, created using the previous frameworks and compiled data. This model forecasts the battery energy density S-curve over time. The model proves the importance of an ETS and technology spillovers in accelerating the R&D of low-carbon technologies for the shipping sector. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/186844 |
