Abstract: Cell membrane nanotechnology has attracted considerable interest in the nanomedicine field due to its excellent biocompatibility and versatility. Numerous nanoparticles have been developed with different cell membrane coatings, almost all the designs having the core-shell spherical structure. Produced by the body itself, the potential of cell membrane nanotechnology for the development of true personalized nanomedicine has just started to be unveiled. Here the effect of flattened, 2D-like morphology on the efficacy of cell membrane based nanomedicine is examined in comparison to spherical counterpart. It is shown that the changing the morphology to a flattened conformation significantly improved the efficacy of nanomedicine due to increased contact surface between the nanomedicine and the target cells. Additionally, this work demonstrates one of the first examples of cell membrane based personalized nanomedicine concept by treating melanoma bearing mice with mouse melanoma cell membrane based nanomedicine.
