Abstract: In the present investigation, the composition-structure-property correlation has been studied by choosing the well studied binary Li20 :B20 3 glasses as the base materials and partially replacing B20 3 by R20 0 (R = Bi, Ga and Cr, n = 3; R = Nb and Ta, n = 5) or keeping the oxygen/boron ratio constant and adding the fluorine into lithium bora le glasses. Chapter I is devoted to a general introduction on fast ion conducting (FIC) glasses outlining the theories of glass formation, the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the principles of ionic conduction in solids. Different experimental techniques and basic principles adopted in this study have been described in Chapter 2.
