Title: ALCOHOL USE BY FEMALE MUSLIM YOUTH
Authors: SUZIELA YASSIN
Issue Date: 1999
Citation: SUZIELA YASSIN (1999). ALCOHOL USE BY FEMALE MUSLIM YOUTH. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.
Abstract: Alcohol use by female Muslim youth is not a study of deviance. It is the study of dominant discourses and its power over the individual. Discourse is not only the perspective from which we view our reality, it also affects how we perceive ourselves. As such my study involves the understanding of discourse and its impact on the self. Here, I will explore the impact of religion and ethnicity on the negative self concept of my respondents. To what extent does one or the other affect this negativity and how do users come to terms with their self-image?
