Abstract: In this thesis, we focus on the analysis technique leading to the bit error probabilities (BEP) of BDPSK and QDPSK with selection diversity reception over the nonselective slow Rayleigh fading channel, including additive, correlated Gaussian interference (CGI). First, the exact BEP expressions are obtained in closed forms for BDPSK and QDPSK over the above fading channel. The formula for 8DPSK is proved not precise but can serve as a good upper bound for small diversity order. Second, the upper bounds for all the above BEP's have been found, and are very tight as well as easy to compute. Third, we also have found both lower and upper bounds for MRC diversity reception without and with CGI cases. The lower bound is completely new, while the upper bound improves the old result in the literature by more than a factor of two. Based on these expressions, we calculate the BEP's numerically, and study their relationships with various system parameters. Finally, simulations are used to verify our theoretical results. The main improvement over the old result is that we considered the fading fluctuation between two consecutive symbol intervals. Additionally, our analyses and results here are both simple and general.
