Abstract: Carbon Capture and Storage has become vital to overcome issue of global warming. Gas-hydrate based CO2 capture and storage is one of the potential technologies for CCS for long lasting time. Gas hydrates are non-stoichiometric crystalline compounds that are formed when guest molecules get trapped within water molecules at high-pressure and low-temperature conditions. Main hurdle for this technique was identified as slow hydrate growth-rate. Here, L-Tryptophan was employed as kinetic promoter for CO2 gas system. Experiments were carried out to optimize kinetic performance of L-Tryptophan under various conditions. Optimized concentration of L-tryptophan was found to be 300 ppm with increase in gas uptake by more than 300%. L-tryptophan being as environmental-friendly and superb impact on kinetics makes it one of the best kinetic promoter. Also, preliminary bulk CO2 hydrate stability tests was demonstrated at sea-bed like condition in laboratory setting as essential step for designing sustainable deep ocean CO2 sequestration.
