Abstract: Coplanar transmission lines (CPW, CPS) are finding more extensive applications in the (monolithic) microwave integrated circuits (MMIC) due to several advantages offered over conventional microstrop lines. Grounding of components does not require plated through-holes to a plane on the other side of the substrate. This makes the coplanar lines ideal for use with surface mounted components. Anotehr feature of coplanar lines is that their traces can be changed to match component lead widths while keeping the characteristic impedance constant. The present thesis consists of two parts. One is on the CAD models for synthesis of unifrom coplanar lines. Another part is on full-wave analysis of uniform and periodically nonuniform planar transmission lines.
