Title: CHRISTIAN ETHICS AND ECONOMIC BEHAVIOUR
Authors: NG KOK LOONG

Citation: NG KOK LOONG (2000). CHRISTIAN ETHICS AND ECONOMIC BEHAVIOUR. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.
Abstract: There is nothing intrinsically wrong with enterprise, initiative an ownership. What is wrong is that these are harnessed to profit, power self-aggrandizement and inequality.' (Timothy J. Gorringe, 1994) Thus, proponents of Christian ethics need not be apologetic on the assumption of homo economicus, nor enthusiastic in reformulating an alternative rationality for economic analysis. But rather, proponents of Christian ethics should make use of the existing assumptions of economics in providing a holistic as well as plausible integrated Christian view. In this respect, the proper approach is to start from the proposition that, for the exchange to take place efficiently and productively, certain values such as trust, honesty, diligence, human dignity and a just social framework should be installed.
