Title: | HIGH TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES IN SINGAPORE SPACE AND LOCATION NEEDS | Authors: | LIEW CHAI LYNN | Keywords: | High technology industry High quality industrial Space |
Issue Date: | 1992 | Citation: | LIEW CHAI LYNN (1992). HIGH TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES IN SINGAPORE SPACE AND LOCATION NEEDS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The aim of this study is to identify the space and locational needs of the high technology industry in Singapore. This is to test the hypothesis that high technology industries have special characteristics which set them apart from the traditional industries and hence have special space and locational needs which are not being met by the industrial market. The method adopted was a literature research coupled with a survey of the industry. The findings confirmed the hypothesis. Most of the high technology firms were not able to meet the planning guidelines for either the industrial space use or the office use. They require a much more flexible floor layout with a high quality environment. The main recommendation made at the end of the study was that planning authorities should look into the revising the guidelines so as to cater to the high technology industry. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/173386 |
