Abstract: To fully understand the control of aldosterone secretion, it is necessary to identify the enzymes responsible for the enzymatic steps of converting the common steroid precursor cholesterol to aldosterone; especially the enzyme(s) (P45011? related enzymes) involved in the final steps which are 11?-hydroxylation, 18-hydroxylation and 18-oxidation. This thesis describes the characterisation of a cDNA clone corresponding to the ovine P45011?, both structurally and functionally, as well as the interpretations of results arising from this study and other laboratories
