Abstract: The upward movement of housing prices in Singapore, from the aftermath of recession in 1986 to the second quarter of 1996, had sparked off concerns by citizens and policy-makers alike. Unlike previous surges in housing prices, the upswing was more pronounced and prolonged. Not surprisely, it provided a fertile field for economic enquiry. This dissertation seeks to address the causes behind the housing inflation. More importantly, the research will provide an insight of how prices in the housing market are determined in Singapore.
