Title: | BIT ERROR PROBABILITIES OF BDPSK, PI/2-BDPSK, QDPSK, AND PI/4-DQPSK OVER THE FREQUENCY NONSELECTIVE RICIAN FADING CHANNEL | Authors: | ZHONG CHENG | Issue Date: | 1996 | Citation: | ZHONG CHENG (1996). BIT ERROR PROBABILITIES OF BDPSK, PI/2-BDPSK, QDPSK, AND PI/4-DQPSK OVER THE FREQUENCY NONSELECTIVE RICIAN FADING CHANNEL. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | In this thesis, we present a unified approach for analyzing the bit error probabilities (BEP) of binary differential phase shift keying (BDPSK), pi/2-shift BDPSK (Pi/2- BDPSK), quaternary differential phase shift keying (QDPSK), and Pi/4-shift differential quaternary phase shift keying (Pi/4-DQPSK) modulation schemes over the frequency nonselective Rician fading channel for a receiver with an arbitrary intermediate frequency (IF) filter, and for a fading process with an arbitrary Doppler spectrum with arbitrary Doppler bandwidth. Two kinds of receiver structures are considered, namely, the matched filter and the narrowband IF filter with intersymbol interference (ISI). Besides giving the exact results of BEP as a benchmark, we emphasize the use of a bounding technique which gives us simple and yet very tight exponential bounds. Our analyses and results are simple and general. The behavior of the BEP as a function of the various system parameters, such as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the Rician K-factor, the fading bandwidth as well as the irreducible BEP, is easily shown. In addition, many previous results can be regarded as special cases of our analyses here. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/172378 |
