Abstract: The Media Complex is a multi-tenanted workplace for related business activities in the media industry. The tenants are made up of small to medium enterprises who are brought together to form a critical mass. The workplace is thus designed to reflect the nature of this profession and to promote interaction among its various professionals. This thesis addresses the issue of a workplace designed for a range of users from a particular business group or industry. Hence, the architectural objective is to create a workplace that befits this particular business community once it is identified. In this case, the media industry is chosen as a vehicle because it consists of a good range of professionals, all of whom are motivated by a common interest to investigate, inform, influence and innovate. The site is located within the Central Business District, in close proximity to the Civic and Cultural Centre as well as to related and supporting amenities and businesses. A private telecommunications company, Singapore Telecoms, will undertake the management of the Media Complex. This management is based on a modified system of the Shared Tenant Service (STS) Concept, which will allow the tenants to enjoy the benefits of shared access to common facilities, equipment, information and computer technology in a cost-effective manner. Singapore aims to become the "Media Capital of the Region", and under the auspices of the Economic Development Board, has further plans for a MediaPark. With a projected annual growth rate of 10% and with no less than 2000 companies listed within the media industry, this profession is poised to boost our nation's standing as a services economy.
