Abstract: The compound trimethysilyl-m-chlorophenylmethane has been prepared. The kinetics of the alkaline cleavage of this compound in dimethylsulfoxide- water ( 6:1, v/v) has been studied Spectrophotometrically at 30.0 °C. The rate of cleavage is 3.483 x 10-3 sec-1 with a half- life of 3.315 min.
