Abstract: The compound Bis-(trimethylsilyl)-m-chlorophenylmethane has been prepared. The kinetics of the alkaline cleavage of this compound in DMSO-water (6:1, V/V) has been studied Spectrophotometrically at 30°C. The rate of cleavage by 0.01 N NaOH is 1.01 x 10-4 sec-1 with a half-life of 114.6 min. and that by 0.05 N NaOH is 3.29 x 10-3 sec-1 with a half-life of 3.51 min.
