Abstract: This thesis present a study related to the pitting corrosion mechanism of steels in simulated concrete pore solution (pH 12.5) with the presence of chloride. Furthermore, sodium molybdate was applied to study the corrosion inhibition mechanism on the steel with the presence of chloride. The combination of in situ SERS and electrochemical tests provide detailed component information of oxide layer on steels as a function of applied potential, making it possible to link physical properties of the oxide layer with theoretical model in corrosion mechanism study.
