THE PREPARATION AND KINETIC STUDIES OF TRANS-CHLORO-METHYLAMINEBIS(1,3-DIAMINOPROPANE)-COBALT (III) PERCHLORATE

Abstract

The complex chloromethylaminebis(1,3-diaminopropane)cobalt(III) perchlorate has been prepared. A trans- configuration was assigned to the complex on the basis of the visible absorption and infrared spectra. The modified method of preparing the starting material trans-dichlorobis(1,3-diaminopropane)cobalt(III) chloride was also reported. The equation of this complex follows first-order kinetics and on proceeds by an SN1 mechanism, the base hydrolysis of this complex, however, follows second order kinetics and proceeds by an SN1 ion-pair mechanism.
