The social meanings of clothes in a consumer culture is essentially signified by the process of fashion where meanings are continually being constructed. These clothes are consumed in relation to the demands of the work place. By exploring the social meanings of their clothing code, the study hopes to understand how the working woman is essentially a contingent self constructed according to the demands of the context. In addition the study looks at the effects of clothes on the self identity interacting within this domain.
