Abstract: A description of the construction of the apparatus is given. The diffusion coefficients of calcium chloride up to 1 m have been determined and the procedure for calculating the differential diffusion coefficients from the experimental integral diffusion coefficients is described. A brief summary of the theoretical calculation is given. On comparison of the theoretical and experimental values of the diffusion coefficients, it is found that the hydration theory cannot account for the deviation of the observed from theoretical values unless about 26 molecules of water are assigned to each calcium ion.
