石城客家话的双及物结构及相关问题 = DITRANSITIVE CONSTRUCTIONS AND RELATED ISSUES IN SHICHENG HAKKA DIALECTS

Abstract

The dissertation studies the ditransitive construction and related issues in four varieties in Shicheng Hakka dialect (including Gaotian, Pingshan, Xiaogu and Yanling) and aims to offer a detailed description on how they deal with the lack of the general purpose GIVE verb in the expression of GIVE event. It shows that for the expression of General Purpose of Give Event in Shicheng dialects, the main verbs of the Indirect Object Constructions are not exactly same, but mainly HOLD/TAKE verbs and GET verbs, dative markers neither not exactly same, but mainly originated from GET verbs verbs, which makes the constructions for General Purpose of Give Event becoming CONSTRUCTIONS (Goldberg, 1995:4). For the expression of Non-General Purpose of Give Event in Shicheng dialects, the Indirect Object Constructions and Double Object Constructions should also be conceived as CONSTRUCTIONS. The findings are different from the hypothesis proposed by Zhang Min (2011) .
