EFFECTS OF MIXED MEALS WITH SPECIAL FORMULATED RICE ON BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS OF HEALTHY VOLUNTEERS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This study investigated the postprandial glucose, insulin and satiety responses to 5ibreGrains™, a grain shape fibre blend, in mixed meals. Twenty-two healthy adults were randomized to consume 0 %, 6.7 % and 13.3 % of 5ibreGrains™ in meals. In all tested conditions, the application of 6.7 % and 13.3 % 5ibreGrains™ did not significantly reduce postprandial glycemic and insulinemic responses relative to the control meal. However, there was a smaller decrease in rated prospective food intake after ingestion of 5ibreGrains™ as compared to control meal (p = 0.024). The levels of postprandial ghrelin (p = 0.031) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (p = 0.044) were also found to be significantly higher after ingestion of 13.3 % 5ibreGrains™ meals as compared to the control. Overall, the application of 5ibreGrains™ at 6.7 % and 13.3 % were not effective in lowering the glycemic responses but may have effects on gut hormones and meal satiety. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/165328 |
