Abstract: To achieve optimal process operations and meet tighter environmental regulations, a reliable and effective control system is a must. This reliability and effectiveness highly depend on the prudent tuning of the controllers involved. The modern industries are extremely dynamic as product specifications and customer demands change rapidly. In order to meet these changes, controllers tuning needs to achieve high performance for set-point tracking. Although model-based controller design methods are predominantly used in the past decades, data-based design methods have been developed recently as they offer an attractive alternative to designing control systems without resorting to model identification. One such method is the Virtual-Reference-Feedback-Tuning (VRFT) method. Motivated by its potential industrial applications, new design methods have been developed for control systems of practical importance under the VRFT design framework in this research.
