ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The pattern of office development depends on the users of offices. This study identify the different office users and their locational preference in the Central Business District. The analysis of office development is carried out by using the SAS computer package. In the analysis, the Contingency Table is used to determine the survey results. The large sample size of one thousand nine hundred and forty one observations from a total of forty buildings covered during the survey ensure reliability and representation of the users of office space in Singapore. From the survey resu1ts, Raff1es Place continues to be the number one banking area in Singapore. Shenton Way, once preferred by many bankers is now dominanted by manufacturing and export/import firms. Two new patterns are observed in the other areas. Firstly, Cecil Street that used to be dominated by finance/insurance firms is increasingly popular with shipping firms. Secondly, Tanjong Pagar with the many new buildings and facilities within that vicinity may become the alternative banking centre in Singapore. In the order of dominance, the Professional group forms the largest occupation in the CBD.
