MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF PANDAN VALLEY

Abstract

The concept, of condominium was introduced in the early seventies as a type of high-rise, high density upper middle income housing to guide and direct the path of private housing development. With more and more modern and newer developments being completed, it is increasingly important to ensure that the existing condominiums are properly managed and maintained in order to remain competitive. Pandan Valley, which is one of the earliest and largest condominiums to be completed, is therefore selected as a case study to examine the various aspects of management and maintenance practices. The adoption of good property management techniques is important in ensuring a high standard. Attempt is thus made to assess the standard of management and maintenance of the estate. The evaluation is done based on the results from a household sample survey conducted by the writer and her own observations. This study also looks into the degree of residents' participation in the management of the estate.
