Abstract: Sentosa, Singapore's first and only resort island, is a multi-million dollar project, with a key role in helping to boost tourism. Lately, the island has attracted renewed interest because of the Government's determined effort to sell Singapore as a tourist destination. Ambitious new plans have been drawn up for Sentosa and it is obvious that the tourism planners are eager to exploit the full potential of the island. Apart from the touristic aspect, there is also the ccmnercial aspect which should not be neglected. At present, the level of commercial activity does not reflect the potential of the island. This potential awaits to be tapped but first the commercial environment should be made conducive. This study is thus an endeavour to look into the present situation on Sentosa and put forth some factors that could have hindered the maximisation of commercial potential, a future scenario will be proposed; a scenario where ccnmercial investments are encouraged and the potential is realised.
