ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Singapore has come a long way to be what it is today, a young, modernized and industrialized city state. The recent years of rapid expansion and advancement in her economy has led to the emergence of executives - a category of well-educated, white collar workers. The term 'executive' and 'professional' have been terms that are easily recognised. Whilst much research had been done on the professionals, this particular study aims to examine the lifestyles of young executives and the values they uphold in their everyday life. For the purpose of this study, thirty young executives, with equal number of males and females, tertiary educated, earning a minimum income of S$2,000 per month have been chosen for the interview. Chapter One would give an introductory section on the rise of young executives in Singapore followed by the definition and function of executives. The Yuppies in Singapore will also be mentioned. Chapter Two would give an account of the sample and methodology applied in this study, the sampling procedure, fieldwork and limitation of the study will be presented, Chapter Three to Five would present the findings of the study viz. three main areas, the work life, family life and the socioeconomic sphere, In the process of analysis, a comparison will be made between the government and non-government executives.
