Title: | TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER THROUGH COLLABORATION BETWEEN LARGE MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES AND SMALL OR MEDIUM-SIZED COMPANIES IN SINGAPORE | Authors: | NICHOLAS LIEW SOON KHENG | Issue Date: | 1989 | Citation: | NICHOLAS LIEW SOON KHENG (1989). TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER THROUGH COLLABORATION BETWEEN LARGE MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES AND SMALL OR MEDIUM-SIZED COMPANIES IN SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This project investigates the technology transfer in a developing economy, such as Singapore's, through the process of collaboration. It attempts to identify the patterns of technology transfer through collaboration between MNCs and local SMFs. Also, in the process of the study, the strategies and policies which promote such technology transfer will be high-lighted. The study focuses on Singapore's electronics industry because it is a target industry since the start of the country's industrialisation programme. Thus, there is sufficient observations on the technology transfer process as it evolves through the various stages of Singapore's economic development. The investigation covers industry-wide collaboration and it is supplemented by six case studies. The findings of the investigation show that technology transfer through collaboration is relatively widespread and effective. Distinct patterns of technology transfer through collaboration can be identified. Also, the policies and strategies are gearing the technology transfer process in the right direction in line with Singapore's new economic policies and directions. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/162991 |
