Abstract: The most common types of private residential housing in Singapore are condominiums and landed properties. With rising affluence and changing tastes, it is imperative for developers and real estate professionals to be aware of the emerging needs, tastes and preferences for each of these two types of housing. The identification and understanding of home buyers' desires will help developers to implement strategies and tailor their developments to meet the future challenges of the ever-changing residential market. This dissertation is an attempt to unfold the socio¬ economic characteristics of homeowners inhibiting in these two particular types of housing. In addition, the preferences of homeowners in the choice between condominiums and landed property will be explored as such knowledge will provide a useful basis for evaluation purposes and further improvement in the quality of private housing in Singapore.
