Abstract:

THE ADVANCED OXIDATION TECHNOLOGIES PARTICULARLY PHOTOCATALYTIC AND ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES WERE INVESTIGATED FOR THE REMOVAL OF RHODAMINE 6G DYE AS A MODEL POLLUTANT. PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION SYSTEM WAS CONDUCTED USING PREPARED CATALYSTS: TIO2-MOUNTED ACTIVATED CARBON CLOTH AND TIO2-IMPREGNATED MAGNETITE; WHILE ELECTROCHEMICAL TREATMENT SYSTEM WAS CONDUCTED USING COMMERCIAL RUO2 COATED TI MESH. THE IMPORTANT PARAMETERS ON THE PHOTOCATALYTIC AND ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES WERE INVESTIGATED. IN THE DYE REMOVAL EFFICIENCY, THE ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY WAS FOUND TO BE SUPERIOR TO THE PHOTOCATALYTIC TECHNOLOGY. UV-VIS, FT-IR, AND XPS STUDIES REVEALED THE MECHANISM OF DYE REMOVAL ON THE ELECTROCHEMICAL TREATMENT OF RHODAMINE 6G, WHICH INVOLVED DYE DEGRADATION, OXIDATION, AND COAGULATION (FORMATION OF RED-SOLID FOAM PRODUCT). THE ELECTROCHEMICAL TREATMENT OF SYNTHETIC TEXTILE WASTEWATER SHOWS PROMISING RESULTS DUE TO ITS HIGH TOC REMOVAL EFFICIENCY AND DISAPPEARANCE OF THE FOAM
